Automatic Terminal Close
Often while doing some sensitive configuration on your Linux servers, you need to get off for a break. Can be a coffee break or anything.
At that time, if you forget to do “exit” from your terminal. It can be a real security issue. Anyone can use that terminal (if u have used su – to do admin job).
What you want is that your terminal should be “auto closed” after certain period of inactivity. Perfect.
Use TMOUT variable for the job.
You can apply this setting system wide by editing /etc/profile OR user specific by editing ~/.bashrc of each user.
Here is a small illustration of this lovely linux hack.
You will agree, that these things are not taught in standard Linux Training or RHCE Training program.
