Red Hat Linux Subscription

GEEKS !!

While using yum command during your RHCE Training or RHCSS Training or even using Red Hat Linux in production environment you might have encountered this error:

“Unable to read consumer identity”

while updating yum using “yum update -y” command.

The reason might be that your machine has not been registered and with RHN therefore has no access to security and other critical updates. One way is to subscribe to RHN using subscription-manager. In case, you don’t want to buy subscription (which you should not do for production servers) from RHN you can just make these small change in two files.

1. /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/subscription-manager.conf
2. /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/product-id.conf

and change enabled=0

Here is the illustration from my machine.
