Detailed Hardware Information using lshw

Though I don’t share anything technical on Friday’s as its my weekly off. But today I am in office so lets learn something very small, yet very useful, specially while managing remote Linux servers.

You know apart from using dmidecode command you can also use lshw (Hardware Lister) command to get a very detailed information about your Linux machines.

lshw displays detailed information about manufacturer of the machine, serial number, motherboard, CPU, RAM, PCI cards, disks, network card etc.

Ubuntu users can simply give the command –

sudo apt-get install lshw

to install it and RHEL users can download the rpm from the link given below:

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/16048967/dir/redhat_el_6/com/lshw-2.15-1.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm.html
