Use iostat for NFS direcotory / filesystem IO

Did you know that you can track NFS client metrics (disk I/O) under Linux operating system using “iostat” command?

The iostat command generates reports, based on those findings an admin can change system configuration for a better input/output. The -n and -x option when used with iostat displays the NFS-directory statistic. Data displayed are valid only with kernels 2.6.17 and newer.

iostat -x -n

is the command that you can use to display IO stats for a NFS filesystem.

Below is the screenshot from my machine, first showing a simple iostat displaying the whole HDD IO and then with -x -n option showing only NFS filesystem IO.
